Solution

This concept project solved a problem that focused on my personal growth. In learning Articulate Rise, I felt stuck in the templates offered by the program. I found myself asking, "Is it possible to combine the ease and speed of development within Rise with engaging visual design and a scenario-based approach versus information dumps.

I took a sample project I had made using Articulate Rise's provided template and restructured the entire project. I learned how to incorporate full width images and other components to bring a seamless visual design to something cookie-cutter. I also learned how to incorporate scenario based learning within the bounds of a microlearning experience.

The Process

I worked through the full instructional design process on this concept project including developing a text-based storyboard, designing visual mockups, and iterating on numerous prototypes in response to feedback. I utilized tools that include Pages, Illustrator, Adobe Color, Articulate Rise 360, Articulate Storyline 360 and Articulate Review 360.

The scrolling flow, colorful design, and varied interactions were intentional choices to help engage the learner while trying to make it feel less like a traditional training course.

I also decided to incorporate a Storyline block into the Rise course for increased user interaction. I created a course summary that includes a slide interaction to reveal the content as the user moves through the slides. I also incorporated a variable that blocks the forward arrow until all content is revealed on each slide.

The job aid available at the end enables the learner to leave with a tangible reference for future use.

Reflecting upon this project, I would work on revising Sandra's portion to include another Storyline block that provides a mini scenario interaction.
