Tab Menu Micro Interaction with  Articulate Storyline

Background

I designed and developed this tab menu micro interaction concept project with tourists in mind. The goal of the project was to incorporate triggers and variables that allowed users to intuitively interact with the information while also providing some background information about the Cinque Terre in Italy.

Design Challenge

Create an interactive experience that incorporates a unique use of buttons and other features in Articulate Storyline.

Solution

This growth project was utilized to deepen my functionality with Articulate Storyline, specifically in the incorporation of buttons, triggers, hover states, and variables. I also wanted to develop an equally effective digital and physical resource.

I created micro tab interaction that incorporates buttons that work in multiple ways, hover states, and variables and triggers that allow the user to interact with the learning in their own way. I also developed a clear and effective job aid version.

The Process

I worked through the full instructional design process on this concept project including conducting research, developing a text-based storyboard, designing visual mockups, and iterating on numerous prototypes in response to feedback. I utilized tools that include Pages, Keynote, Illustrator, Articulate Storyline 360 and Snagit.

The bright visuals are designed to pull the learner in. Then, each learner can move through the information at his or her leisure, choosing what information they'd like revealed first based on interest. I incorporated various triggers and variables that work to limit the information the learner experiences all at once while allowing them to go back to any screen at any time. This project also includes moving between various states and well as incorporating hotspots to reveal text.

I created an informational flyer in tandem with the interaction to reach more learners. You can access this PDF within the course, but you can also use it on its own for learners who don't have internet access (which is quite possible while in the Cinque Terre.)

The  job aid includes custom graphics and stock photos as well as the same information presented in the digital interaction adapted from an online source.
